FontScanner’s job is to find fonts and report them. If you also want a place to store licenses you own — vendor, type, domains, seats, and proof of purchase — you can register them here. Scans can then show Verified, Missing, or Domain not covered, and you can use the inventory on its own.

Spreadsheets go stale. Agencies inherit fonts from themes. You can keep licenses in FontScanner whether or not you scan, and when you do scan, the gap between detections and records is visible.

What each status means

Shown next to commercial fonts on your scan report.

Verified

An active license you registered matches this font and covers this scan’s domain (or has no domain restriction).

Domain not covered

You have a license for the typeface, but this website is not on the covered-domain list.

Missing

No matching license record. Add one, or treat the font as a review item before launch.

Unknown

Public or shared reports never show vendor names or documents. Only the scan owner sees real match details.

Monotype, Adobe, Hoefler, or an agency — plus web, desktop, app, server, enterprise, or open source.

Dates & seats

Purchase date, renewal date, and seat count so you can see what is about to expire.

Covered domains

example.com covers www and app.example.com. Leave domains empty for an org-wide desktop or app license.

Notes

Internal context: who bought it, which brand, which contract. Visible only to you.

Proof of purchase

PDF, PNG, JPG, or Word. Stored on persistent volume storage so files survive restarts and deploys.

License inventory FAQ

Is the license inventory required?
No. FontScanner’s primary job is detecting fonts on websites and PDFs and reporting them. The inventory is optional: record licenses you own if you want commercial detections to show Verified, Missing, or Domain not covered — or use it as a standalone list.
How does automatic matching work?
Font names are normalized at the family level, so Gotham Bold matches a Gotham license. Domains are normalized hosts: a license for example.com covers subdomains. If the license has no domains, it covers every site you scan.
Are my license details visible on public reports?
No. Vendor names, renewal dates, and documents are only shown to the scan owner (or an admin viewing that account). Shared or public reports show Unknown so private license data does not leak.
What files can I upload as proof of purchase?
PDF, PNG, JPG, DOC, and DOCX, up to 10 MB. The server checks extension and content type. Files are stored on a persistent volume, not on ephemeral container disk.
Is this legal advice?
No. FontScanner is an informational audit and inventory tool. Matching status helps you review risk; it does not replace a license agreement or an attorney.
